Her life in the arts
Guru Shashilata Guptaa founded Sadhana Nritya Sangeet Vidyalaya in 1983 with a simple aim: to teach classical music and dance properly, without shortcuts.
She learned from three teachers, Srimati Madhurita Sarang, Pandit Gopi Krishna and Pandit Lehri Maharaj, and trained in the lineage that connects Kanpur, Banaras and Jaipur. She teaches Kathak in the Banaras-Lucknow tradition and guides students in Hindustani classical music.
What a guru gives is not information. It is a way of listening.
